Carla Bruni – I Went to Heaven – (Emily Dickinson)

Carla Bruni, an Italian ex-model and singer and now married to French President Nicolas Sarkozy, has a sultry voice that can lullaby you and soothe you like no other singer. The lyrics are from a poem written by Emily Dickinson, my favorite poet. I went to heaven,– ‘T was a small town, Lit with a ruby, Lathed with down. Stiller than the fields At the full dew, Beautiful as pictures No man drew. People like the moth, Of mechlin, frames, Duties of gossamer, And eider names. Almost contented I could be ‘Mong such unique Society.
