West Ham United v SSC Napoli Tribute to Sir BR

Description:

Hammers and The Partenope pay their respects to the dear departed Sir Bobby Robson. Some good loud singing from both groups of fans. This was a great day out for the neutral (me). I have a huge respect for both clubs who have both under achieved over the years. Yet both club enjoy a huge and loyal following. I have been privileged to visit San Paolo twice this year (see my channel). The supporters are so similar in their fanaticism for their club. I have of course visited The Boleyn many times down the years and the Hammers fans make their ground a must visit venue. Both clubs have dockside connotations although the London Docks are long since gone. Both teams draw huge support from fans who have a true affinity with the area of their City. They are clubs who do not attract the glory hunter types yet both attract huge crowds. Somehow the people that support West Ham and Napoli seem to have a pride in their area and this is transmitted to the way they support their teams. Both sets of fans are famous for their legendary chirpy humour and historically have often had to duck and dive to make a living. It should be noted that during the 1990 world cup England fans took a lot of shit in Italy…….until they moved South to Naples where the locals erected banners saying “Naples welcomes the English”. This was their way of of sticking their fingers up to The North who they detest. Ask a Neoploitan his nationality and he won’t answer “Italian”……..he will say “I am Neapolitan”.
